Our Story

The breeder with Nala and Brida on a riverbank in Yosemite Valley

My passion for the Doberman breed began the moment I brought home my very first Doberman. What started as simply owning a dog quickly turned into a deep love and admiration for this incredible breed.

I was immediately drawn to everything that makes the Doberman so special: their intelligence, athleticism, unwavering loyalty, and naturally protective instincts. Their elegant appearance, powerful build, and confident presence are truly something to admire. But what made me fall in love with the breed wasn’t just their striking looks. It was their temperament and the incredible bond they form with their families.

To me, the Doberman is the complete package. They are loving and affectionate companions, intelligent and eager to learn, athletic and full of energy, yet naturally alert and protective of those they love. Their ability to be both a devoted family companion and a confident guardian is what makes this breed so extraordinary.

As my appreciation for the breed continued to grow, so did my desire to share that same experience with others. That passion is what inspired me to establish Activated Dobermans.

My goal is to raise quality European Dobermans with an emphasis on stable temperaments, sound health, intelligence, and the remarkable characteristics that make this breed so special. I want every family who welcomes one of our puppies into their home to experience the same joy, companionship, and unconditional loyalty that made me fall in love with my very first Doberman.

At Activated Dobermans, this is more than just breeding dogs. It’s about preserving the qualities I admire most in the breed and helping other families discover just how incredible life with a Doberman can be.

Our Dobermans

Health Testing & Genetic Transparency

At Activated Dobermans, we believe responsible breeding begins with understanding the health and genetics of our dogs. We are committed to transparency, genetic screening, and making informed breeding decisions to support the long term health and wellbeing of our Dobermans.

Both of our females, Nala and Brida, have undergone comprehensive DNA screening through Embark Veterinary, which evaluates 273 genetic health conditions and markers. Our stud, Zues, has the same Embark panel and is clear on DCM1, DCM2 and von Willebrand Disease Type I.

Our Commitment to Health

We understand that genetic testing is only one part of responsible breeding. While DNA screening provides valuable information about inherited health risks, it cannot guarantee that a dog or its offspring will remain free of disease.

Dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) is a significant health concern in the Doberman breed, and a clear result for DCM1 and DCM2 does not eliminate the possibility of developing the condition. Regular veterinary evaluations and cardiac screening are also important.

At Activated Dobermans, our goal is to combine genetic awareness, responsible breeding practices, stable temperaments, and the exceptional qualities of the European Doberman to produce healthy, well rounded family companions.

A litter from Nala and Zues is coming late December 2026.

Future Breedings

At Activated Dobermans, every breeding is carefully planned with purpose and intention. We believe responsible breeding goes far beyond simply pairing two impressive dogs.

Before selecting a breeding pair, we carefully review pedigrees, bloodlines, temperament, structure, working ability, and health to ensure the dogs complement one another.

Our goal is to produce Dobermans that not only meet the breed standard but also possess excellent temperaments, sound structure, strong working abilities, and the qualities that make this breed truly exceptional.

We are committed to preserving and improving the Doberman breed through thoughtful, selective breeding practices. Every pairing is made with the future of the breed in mind.

We don’t breed simply to produce puppies. We breed with purpose, striving to preserve the integrity, health, temperament, and excellence of the Doberman.

What is included with a puppy?

Every puppy goes home with limited AKC registration, its first vaccinations and a health check by our veterinarian, at 8 weeks. You agree to have your own vet check the puppy within 72 hours of pickup.

Waiting on the breederDeworming, microchip and a starter bag of food.

Are your Dobermans European?

Yes. Our dogs are AKC registered European Dobermans. Nala comes from Westcoast Momba and Westcoast Golden (Honey). Brida comes from Can Best of Island, the face of the IDC 2025 World Championship in Croatia, and Miuccia di Casa Giardino. Her AKC certified pedigree is compiled from official Stud Book records.

Every puppy is bred for confidence, temperament, stability and drive.

Which colors do you breed?

Black & Rust and Red & Rust, the two colors in our lines. You can state a preferred color and sex on the application. Picks are made in deposit order, so an early deposit is the best way to get the color you have your heart set on.

Should I get a male or a female?

The application asks whether you want a male, a female or either. Every puppy is bred for confidence, temperament, stability and drive, and we match each new owner to the puppy with the right temperament.

Tell us about your household on the application and we will say which puppies fit.

Is a Doberman right for someone getting their first dog?

It can be, with a plan. Our application asks whether this is your first dog, how you will exercise a puppy with this much drive, and whether you will commit to obedience training. Honest answers help us match the right puppy to your home.

How do I get a puppy from you?

Start with the application. It asks about your home, your yard, your plans for exercise and training, and the puppy you have in mind.

Once a breeding is confirmed, a $500 deposit puts you on the waitlist. Deposits are taken in order, and that order is the picking order when the litter is born. You visit at 6 weeks to pick your puppy, and you take your puppy home at 8 weeks when the balance is paid.

How does the deposit work?

The deposit is $500. It holds your place in line, and the order of deposits is the order in which families pick their puppy. If you change your mind more than two weeks after your initial deposit, the deposit is forfeited.

Waiting on the breederWhether a deposit can move to a later litter if the puppy you want is not in this one.

When is the next litter?

A litter from Nala and Zues is coming late December 2026. Both parents are clear on DCM1, DCM2 and von Willebrand Disease Type I. Two puppies are already reserved. Apply now if you want to be in line for this litter.

Do you crop ears and dock tails?

Ear cropping is your choice, and the application asks whether you want it.

Waiting on the breederTail docking and dewclaws.

Can I visit before I decide?

Kennel visits happen when the puppies are 6 weeks old, after their first vaccinations, to protect the litter from parvo. Once you have placed a deposit, you come to the kennel at 6 weeks and pick your puppy in deposit order.

What health testing do you do?

All three of our dogs have been DNA screened through Embark Veterinary for 273 genetic conditions and markers, including DCM1, DCM2 and von Willebrand Disease Type I. Nala and Zues are clear on all three. Brida carries one copy of the DCM1 associated variant, which does not mean she has dilated cardiomyopathy, and we take it into account in every breeding decision.

DNA screening is one part of responsible breeding, not a guarantee. Dilated cardiomyopathy is a serious concern in the breed, and a clear result does not eliminate the possibility of developing it. Regular veterinary evaluations and cardiac screening matter for every Doberman.

Do you offer breeding rights?

Puppies are sold with limited AKC registration. Full AKC registration with breeding rights may be available for an additional fee to carefully screened and approved individuals. Breeding rights are reserved for individuals who share our dedication to responsible breeding practices, proper health testing, sound temperament, and adherence to the Doberman breed standard.

Breeding rights are granted at our discretion and are not guaranteed with the purchase of a puppy.

Do you ship or deliver puppies?

We are in the Bay Area, California, and puppies are picked up in person.

Waiting on the breederDelivery within California, flight nanny or shipping options and their cost.

What if I cannot pick up my puppy on time?

By arrangement, we can board your puppy past 8 weeks for $80 a day, food and care included, once the balance is paid. Let us know as early as you can.

Where are you located?
